Upgrade and Save on Your Air Conditioner
How long have you owned your air conditioning unit? If you bought it more than 10 years ago, consider an upgrade. HVAC technology has become much more efficient since you bought your last air conditioner. Upgrading to a new model could cut your energy costs by up to 40 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
How Do Air Conditioners Work?
Your air conditioner does not add cold air to your home—it removes heat. In simple terms, the equipment harvests warmth and humidity from the air and sends it outside. From there, fans blow the leftover chilled air through your ductwork and into your living space.
Your air conditioning unit has four main components:
- Evaporator coil
- Expansion valve
Your air conditioner uses a chemical called refrigerant to absorb heat. You may be familiar with Freon, the most common name brand of refrigerants.
Here’s how the cooling cycle works:
- The evaporator coil extracts heat from inside your home. The refrigerant soaks up the heat.
- The compressor puts pressure on the refrigerant.
- The condenser releases the heat outdoors.
- The expansion valve regulates the refrigerant’s flow back to the evaporator.
Air Conditioner Installation and Replacement
Should you get a new air conditioner or keep the old one? As a homeowner, you’ll have to answer that question at some point—and it’s not always an easy decision. On average, cooling units last 10 to 15 years with good maintenance.
Besides age, here are some signs it’s time to get a new AC:
- High energy or repair costs
- High humidity levels
- Insufficient cooling
Like an old car that you have to keep taking to the shop, an air conditioner that frequently breaks down is likely ready for retirement. Repair costs add up quickly. At some point, it may be more cost-effective to upgrade.
Our team at Smart Air will work closely with you to find a cooling solution that fits your home and budget. With the finest equipment and a team of qualified HVAC experts, we’re ready to deliver a product that exceeds your expectations.

What Is a Good SEER Rating?
The term SEER stands for seasonal energy efficiency ratio. It measures how much energy your air conditioning system uses to operate. The higher the SEER number, the more efficiently your air conditioner will run.
How Much Money Can a New Air Conditioner Save You?
Our SEER energy savings calculator can help determine how much you could save on your utility bills. Simply enter your current unit's SEER value and compare it to a newer, more efficient system. You can even customize it to better match your home's system for a more accurate calculation.

Call Smart Air Today for Quality Air Conditioning Services
Shane Bryant with Smart Air Cooling and Heating is my new best friend. After being screwed over by my home warranty service and by the A/C company they assigned to me, I was lucky enough to find Shane with Smart Air. Not only was he thorough in his inspection of my A/C, he also patiently answered my questions and was comprehensive in his explanation. Never once did I feel that he was making up problems to prolong the service call or making recommendations to increase the cost of the call. The problem that the other A/C company found and quoted to cost up to $600 turned out to be a clog that Smart Air fixed in under an hour. He was super professional and I will definitely turn to him to maintain my A/C.
I bought a house and the hvac unit was very loud and horribly inefficient, clogged full of dog hair and dirt. A buddy recommended a few people to me and Shane was the best by far. Fox wanted $100 to come look at the unit, just for the call. No thanks. If you want to charge me for an estimate, I think you are not good at your job. Shane came out for free, told me it was just really dirty and needed to be cleaned. He did it in one day and came back the next to install a new return, which I wanted as well. Now I can barely even hear the unit run and it works very well, which is a major improvement. Shane is honest and knows what he is talking about, even going into some mild engineering talk with me when I asked questions. A smart guy. And he works with a guy named Geronimo, which is cool. I’d use him again, no doubt.
I had my air conditioner replaced recently, as it was 15 years old and the rebates right now are fantastic. I also had them add some insulation and weatherize the house ( the rebates again.) I shopped around and Smart Air was comparable with the rest, so I went with them due to the reviews here and I had a good feeling about the owner, Shane. I am very happy I did. Everyone that came over to work on the house was professional and courteous, and they cleaned everything up after they were done. Shane has been extremely helpful with getting all the complicated rebate paperwork done and having the appropriate officials over to verify the work. Amazingly, I really haven’t had to do as much in that regard (whew.) Lastly, Smart Air even got me the recycle rebate for the old conditioner (which a couple of the other guys, to remain nameless, were unwilling to do.) If you are needing any HVAC work, I cannot more highly recommend Smart air.
After Tyler from Tejas Air & Heat just completely flaked out on me by disappearing, I found Smart Air through Yelp. Shane was great. It took awhile to figure out all the problems and get everything repaired due to his busy schedule (the 30+ days of 100+ temperatures are undoubtedly keeping him busy), but in the end I am 100% satisfied. The best thing is Shane was extremely communicative and if he was running behind schedule he would let me know. I’m renting currently, but Shane will definitely be my AC guy when I buy my own place.
My AC quit on an August afternoon – not okay. Smart Air had someone here within 20 minutes, and my AC was blowing ice cubes again within an hour. Sweet, sweet air conditioning.
The technician (named Austen) was very courteous and knowledgeable. He clearly enjoys what he does and took the time to explain each issue we had with our two different A/C units. The invoice included photos of the parts replaced as well as readouts from the screen of the diagnostics tool for future comparison. I feel good about recommending this company to a friend/family.
“We had our AC go out at 11pm the night before, so we called first thing Friday morning and they had a tech to our house by 8am. He was fast, efficient and got the part fixed for a very reasonable price. In the heat of summer, we were SO thankful to have the speed and easy service. We will recommend and use Smart Air Cooling and Heating again for our future AC needs.”
“Installed complete new HVAC inside and out, and replaced duct work. I have never before been SO pleased with everyone connected to a company. From my sales advisor to each and every service technician that worked over the 3-full days installation, they were all wonderful! My conversations with office personnel were also pleasant and satisfying. Brandon was excellent! He took pains to explain things to me about the install, and I now know more about HVAC systems than I ever would have guessed! He and the crews were very conscientious about controlling noise from the work, and also clean up where they had been. Brandon and his assistant came back the following morning to fix one final issue to the electrical wiring. They wanted to ensure that I had a safely installed system and that I was happy with the work done. I have had a maintenance policy with Smart Air Cooling and Heating for several years on my old system, and was always pleased with the attention they paid to my old system during seasonal check-ups. I HIGHLY recommend this company for any AC or HVAC work you need done. I think you will also be a satisfied customer like me.”
