Looking for assistance with your air conditioning (AC) unit? Smart Air is a trusted name for all your heating and cooling needs in Texas.

Our licensed professionals can expertly install, repair, and maintain any piece of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment inside your Austin home. We make comfort a priority.

Upgrade and Save on Your Air Conditioner

How long have you owned your air conditioning unit? If you bought it more than 10 years ago, consider an upgrade. HVAC technology has become much more efficient since you bought your last air conditioner. Upgrading to a new model could cut your energy costs by up to 40 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

How Do Air Conditioners Work?

Your air conditioner does not add cold air to your home—it removes heat. In simple terms, the equipment harvests warmth and humidity from the air and sends it outside. From there, fans blow the leftover chilled air through your ductwork and into your living space.

Your air conditioning unit has four main components:

  • Evaporator coil
  • Compressor
  • Expansion valve
  • Condenser

Your air conditioner uses a chemical called refrigerant to absorb heat. You may be familiar with Freon, the most common name brand of refrigerants.

Here’s how the cooling cycle works:

  1. The evaporator coil extracts heat from inside your home. The refrigerant soaks up the heat.
  2. The compressor puts pressure on the refrigerant.
  3. The condenser releases the heat outdoors.
  4. The expansion valve regulates the refrigerant’s flow back to the evaporator.

Air Conditioner Installation and Replacement

Should you get a new air conditioner or keep the old one? As a homeowner, you’ll have to answer that question at some point—and it’s not always an easy decision. On average, cooling units last 10 to 15 years with good maintenance.

Besides age, here are some signs it’s time to get a new AC:

  • High energy or repair costs
  • High humidity levels
  • Insufficient cooling

Like an old car that you have to keep taking to the shop, an air conditioner that frequently breaks down is likely ready for retirement. Repair costs add up quickly. At some point, it may be more cost-effective to upgrade.

Our team at Smart Air will work closely with you to find a cooling solution that fits your home and budget. With the finest equipment and a team of qualified HVAC experts, we’re ready to deliver a product that exceeds your expectations.

Be sure to ask about our flexible financing solutions designed to meet your specific needs. Purchase the HVAC system your family deserves today.

What Is a Good SEER Rating?

The term SEER stands for seasonal energy efficiency ratio. It measures how much energy your air conditioning system uses to operate. The higher the SEER number, the more efficiently your air conditioner will run.

How Much Money Can a New Air Conditioner Save You?

Our SEER2 (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio 2) energy savings calculator can help determine how much you could save on your utility bills. Simply enter your current unit’s SEER value and compare it to a newer, more efficient SEER2 unit. You can even customize it to better match your home’s system for a more accurate calculation.

“Mr. S Stone performed my HVAC system maintenance on April 4 at 8:00 AM. He arrived on time and had a very cordial personality. However, my overall satisfaction is below average because of his attention to details, and his readiness to take a shortcut or do unauthorized actions on system's components.

1. He missed checking the air filter and the bottom of the furnace front panel wasn't put back on correctly.
2. He put a hole in the insulation around the suction line to use a temperature tool when he could have removed the condenser's side panel to do that.
3. I stopped him from modifying the AC drain line. The drain pipe already had two access points to insert the compressor hose's nozzle.

He is a good guy. He just need to make some adjustments to get a 5-star rating the next time.”

“Where to begin. I feel like I got to interact with everyone with Smart Air. And everyone was Extremely friendly and willing to help me resolve my issue. I was so impressed with them coming to diagnosis(Austin) my problem I knew I wanted them to do the repair. Jamie and his associate arrived and got right to work. They were very mindful to be sure they cleaned up after they completed replacing my evaporator coils. Made sure everything was looked over before they left. And big KUDDOS to Smart Air working with me on paying for the work! I can’t say Thank You enough to all of you! Especially now that we are entering the Summer time! Hats off to you folks!”

- Phillip R.

“AUSTIN WAS VERY PATIENT, THOROUGH AND PROFESSIONAL. HE TOOK THE TIME TO EXPLAIN THINGS TO ME AND WAS VERY KIND. HE TOOK PICTURES AND INSTRUCTED ME ON WHAT TO DO, YOU GUYS HAVE NOT DONE THAT BEFORE AND I REALLY LIKE THAT. HE TOOK THE TIME AND DID THE JOB RIGHT. I APPRECIATE THAT!”

“Smart Air has hard working technicians and empathic customer support personnel. After a month-long delay caused by supply chain issues, a replacement compressor was finally delivered. Shane called upon the American Standard field expert to assist in trouble shooting the problems causing the fatal fault errors. Shane stood behind the warranty and performed the A/C repairs at no cost.”

We had our AC go out at 11pm the night before, so we called first thing Friday morning and they had a tech to our house by 8am. He was fast, efficient and got the part fixed for a very reasonable price. In the heat of summer, we were SO thankful to have the speed and easy service. We will recommend and use Smart Air Cooling and Heating again for our future AC needs.

Shane Bryant with Smart Air Cooling and Heating is my new best friend. After being screwed over by my home warranty service and by the A/C company they assigned to me, I was lucky enough to find Shane with Smart Air. Not only was he thorough in his inspection of my A/C, he also patiently answered my questions and was comprehensive in his explanation. Never once did I feel that he was making up problems to prolong the service call or making recommendations to increase the cost of the call. The problem that the other A/C company found and quoted to cost up to $600 turned out to be a clog that Smart Air fixed in under an hour. He was super professional and I will definitely turn to him to maintain my A/C.

I bought a house and the hvac unit was very loud and horribly inefficient, clogged full of dog hair and dirt. A buddy recommended a few people to me and Shane was the best by far. Fox wanted $100 to come look at the unit, just for the call. No thanks. If you want to charge me for an estimate, I think you are not good at your job. Shane came out for free, told me it was just really dirty and needed to be cleaned. He did it in one day and came back the next to install a new return, which I wanted as well. Now I can barely even hear the unit run and it works very well, which is a major improvement. Shane is honest and knows what he is talking about, even going into some mild engineering talk with me when I asked questions. A smart guy. And he works with a guy named Geronimo, which is cool. I’d use him again, no doubt.

- Phildo R.

I had my air conditioner replaced recently, as it was 15 years old and the rebates right now are fantastic. I also had them add some insulation and weatherize the house ( the rebates again.) I shopped around and Smart Air was comparable with the rest, so I went with them due to the reviews here and I had a good feeling about the owner, Shane. I am very happy I did. Everyone that came over to work on the house was professional and courteous, and they cleaned everything up after they were done. Shane has been extremely helpful with getting all the complicated rebate paperwork done and having the appropriate officials over to verify the work. Amazingly, I really haven’t had to do as much in that regard (whew.) Lastly, Smart Air even got me the recycle rebate for the old conditioner (which a couple of the other guys, to remain nameless, were unwilling to do.) If you are needing any HVAC work, I cannot more highly recommend Smart air.

After Tyler from Tejas Air & Heat just completely flaked out on me by disappearing, I found Smart Air through Yelp. Shane was great. It took awhile to figure out all the problems and get everything repaired due to his busy schedule (the 30+ days of 100+ temperatures are undoubtedly keeping him busy), but in the end I am 100% satisfied. The best thing is Shane was extremely communicative and if he was running behind schedule he would let me know. I’m renting currently, but Shane will definitely be my AC guy when I buy my own place.
